A Day of Du’a (prayer) for Syria and Egypt

ICNA calls upon all persons of conscience to help stop the bloodshed in Syria

—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—

WASHINGTON DC (August 23, 2013) – The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is calling for a day of du’a (prayer) for Syria and Egypt on Friday, August 23, 2013.

With new credible reports of the use of chemical weapons against its own people the Syrian regime has gone beyond all limits. More than 100,000 men, women and children have lost their lives in pursuit of freedom and the desire to be free from tyranny.

ICNA calls upon the UN to carry out its mandate to investigate and report on the alleged use of chemical weapons against a civilian population. Regardless of the outcome of the investigations the UN must use its full resources to bring about an end to the bloodshed and the growing refugee crisis. According to UN statistics by year’s end there will be an estimated 3.5 million refugees displaced due to the Asad regime’s war against his own people.

The President of ICNA, Naeem Baig said, “Everyday the situation is deteriorating and every day we watch the carnage on our screens. If nothing else we must make du’a (prayers) as a community to amplify the call for the bloodshed to stop.” As part of its campaign for social justice and human rights, ICNA seeks to make aware and educate religious faith communities and the public at large of the dire situation in Syria and its effects on us all.

ICNA also calls upon the US administration to use America’s leadership in the world to spearhead an effective international campaign to end the killing in Syria. It would be a hypocrisy to end the violence in Libya while letting the bloodshed fester in Syria.

ICNA calls upon all persons of conscience to help stop the bloodshed in Syria by calling:

The Secretary-General of the UN H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon at 212-963-123463-1234)
The Whitehouse (202-456-1111) or the State Department(202-647-4000)
