A weekend at Abbot Kinney Festival

With a trust in Allah and a beautiful patience, WhyIslam volunteers set up their booth at the Abbot Kinney Festival in Venice, California on the sunny Saturday of September 27th in preparation for the more than 10,000 people in attendance and one of the most diverse collection of people year round.

With the attractive message of “I love Jesus because I’m a Muslim”, people approached with a curiosity as to who we were and why we were there while some had visited the booth the year before and wanted to continue a dialogue that had been revived at the familiar site of the English translations of the Qur’an on display, of which approximately 350 were distributed along with 500 pamphlets on various topics about Islam as well as other media.

As people flocked in from all different backgrounds, the volunteers were met with a variety of questions ranging from “Why do we need God?” to “What does Islam believe about terrorism?”. Insightful conversations with patience and understanding established an environment of free, open-minded discussion allowing the veil of mysticism to be lifted from the modern view of Islam. People were comfortable enough to indulge in friendly selfies with volunteers and the banner promoting love and unity in the background as well as one visitor taking pictures of the full-sized Da’wah Lineage Chart used to visually explain the lineage of the Prophets (peace be upon them all) as well as the completion
of the family of Abraham with Muhammad as the last and final Messenger (peace and blessing be upon

Among the people were Atheists conversing about the existence of God, Agnostics agreeing with concept of Tawheed in Islam, a Jewish woman asking why there was no “I love Moses” banner,
former Muslims explaining why they had left Islam, and Muslims showing support for the volunteers sincere efforts in bringing an understanding to the neighboring communities about Islam as well as its true core beliefs.

So, with the message of Islam being conveyed with a softness in tone, patience, and knowledge - as was the method of Rasoolullah (peace and blessings be upon him) - and multiple visitors accepting Islam, the day was a success by the mercy of Allah
