Back-2-School Giveaway Reaches Out to More Kids in 2013

ICNA Relief Back 2 School Giveaway at Masjid Ibaadillah in Los Angeles

As the new school year approaches, ICNA-SoCal is gearing up for the annual Back-2-School Giveaway starting on July 27th, when backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed to thousands of low-income schoolchildren across the region.

In its third year in southern California, the project, headed by ICNA Relief, is aiming to reach a greater number of kids than ever before. By the grace of Allah SWT, in previous years more than 1,000 backpacks were packed and delivered. This year, volunteers will be out in force in three SoCal locations, in partnership with our local Muslim community organizations.

The giveaway falls during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Charity to the needy is an integral value of Islam, and in this holy month Muslims are exhorted to redouble their good works in obedience to Allah SWT. He advises us in the Qur’an, “Surely the men and women who give in charity and give to Allah a goodly loan, they shall receive double and for them is a noble reward,” 57:18.

ICNA Relief is committed to extending a helping hand to our neighbors in need. The Back-2-School Giveaway provides essential school supplies to help struggling families start the new academic year. At the same time, it encourages Muslim-Americans to care and build friendships between communities.
